I have always loved dolls even before I owned an American Girl doll! I used to have baby dolls, plush dolls, barbie dolls, but one of my favorite kind of dolls was Porcelian dolls! I used to collect them. I didn't have a very large collection, but I loved all the ones I had. :)
A few days ago I was looking in my closet and came across a porcelain doll that my Grandma gave me for my birthday a few years ago. She is a beautiful doll and one of things I love about her is her dress.
That got me thinking. This dress looked a little small, but would it fit American Girl Dolls? I tried to put the dress on Mia, but wasn't patient enough to slowly put on the dress. So, I gave up for that day and decided it didn't fit.
Well, just last Friday I tried again. I tried putting it on Mia, but I realized Mia has a little bit of a bigger body, so, I thought about trying it on Elizabeth.
(I was surprised how my porcelain doll and Elizabeth look a lot alike! Elizabeth is about two inches taller though.)
I tried it on Elizabeth and.....it Fit! I just had to go outside and take pictures of her in the beautiful dress!
Doesn't she look Gorgeous?
Elizabeth was so pleased with her new (well borrowed) outfit that she had to take a stroll in the park, one of her favorite things to do. Addy let her borrow her bonnet, because she knew it would look beautiful. (Also, Addy knew Elizabeth didn't want freckles on her clear fair-skinned face!)
So, If you ever see a porcelain doll about the size of an American Girl doll at a thrift store or yard sale don't pass it up just because it isn't an American Girl doll! Think about the clothes the doll is wearing! I know when I go to yard sales this summer I will be on the look out for a cheap almost 18 inch Porcelain doll (to add to my collection and also for its clothes!).

Hey Liz!
Elizabeth looks so pretty in that gown! I have two porcelin dolls on my dresser, but I am afraid to take the dresses off. I don't think my dolls' arms would fit, anyway. :) Elizabeth looks perfect! :)

I also loved dolls before I got American Girl ones! :) I had a baby doll I loved, and a cloth doll, and then my first "hard" doll, which was Tolly Tots. Then I got Kirsten! :)

I have an uncle who lives in Germany (I went to visit him about a month ago) and he sends me a porcelan doll for my birthday and sometimes other times. I have about 6 or 7 porcelan dolls but I don't want to try them on Ag dolls. If they tore my parents would be so mad! Yours fits really good on Elizabeth. It's funny how Mia is bigger than Elizabeth

Quinlyn,
I loved dolls ever since i was a baby. I had a bitty baby, a cloth doll, then a plastic doll i don't know what brand it was and then i got american girl dolls.
Posted by: Melissa | April 27, 2009 at 11:20 AM
Before I had american girl dolls, I also had baby dolls and porcelin dolls. But the outfits are way tooo tiny, much smaller then Liz's. But I will look for bigger ones.:)
My church has something like a yard sale soon, so I'll look there. Oh and by the way Elizabeth looks beautiful in her new dress!:)

Hey Liz, how is Megan (The doll)doing? She is a really cute doll!
Posted by: Cara | April 27, 2009 at 05:34 PM
I was just thinking about Megan. How is she?

Posted by: Melissa | April 27, 2009 at 05:49 PM
Yeah! How is she? I think you (Liz) should do a new post, re-visting Meagan and showing her with all the dolls!

Great idea! A post would be great!

Quinlyn,
Your welcome! do you have a blog?
Posted by: Melissa | April 27, 2009 at 07:12 PM
The dresses are beautiful!
Posted by: Anne | April 27, 2009 at 07:21 PM
That's really cool! It reminds me of Kirsten's clothes, especially the handmade ones by keepersdollyduds on eBay. Do you have any photos of the dress by itself, without the pinafore?
I have a dress from a smaller porcelain doll that fits my Hopscotch Hill School doll. I should take some photos of it...thanks for the idea! (If you don't mind me )

Oops, I meant "if you don't mind me taking it"! :)

When do you get to post on your blog Quinlyn?
Hi Sitara, which Hopscotch Hill Doll do you have? I have Hallie. I got her when I was 6 or 7.

Quinlyn,
How often do you update your picassa pics?
Posted by: Melissa | April 28, 2009 at 01:16 PM
Hey Melissa!
Actually, I just updated! :)
Posted by: Quinlyn | April 28, 2009 at 01:52 PM
What a beautiful dress!!! Elizabeth looks simply lovely in that gorgeous dress. You know, it's odd that it wouldn't fit on Mia though... I have noticed that Elizabeth is a little bit thinner than my Mia, too. I also LOVE the bonnet. It looks like it goes with that dress ;D!
Posted by: Abbie | April 28, 2009 at 01:54 PM
Liz,
Elizabeth looks so cute! That would make a great easter dress for next year.
By the way, you seem to not use molly and Abby as much as you use kit, mia, Addy, and Elizabeth. Can you use Molly and Abby in your next post?

Quinlyn,
I love your new pictures! Are the jly paper dolls actual size?
Posted by: Melissa | April 29, 2009 at 11:21 AM
Hey Melissa!
Thanks! :) No, they are not actual size, but they are larger than most paper dolls. :)
Posted by: Quinlyn | April 29, 2009 at 11:40 AM
Hi Girls! :)
Sitara-The pinafore is attached to the dress, so I can't take pictures of just the dress by itself. I wish that the pinafore and dress were seperate, that would be so cool! Also, sure you can do the post about the porcelain doll clothes fitting your Hopscotch Hill doll. I love it when people get ideas from my posts! :)
Jasmine-Thanks! I have also noticed that I haven't been putting Molly and Abbey in my posts that often. I mostly pick my dolls randomly who will be in my posts, but sometimes I choose the ones that people seem to like more. I will be sure to include Molly and Abbey more in my posts! :)
Thank you everyone for the comments! :)

Quinlyn,
Thanks for telling me! We have a half price books near our house that might have that kit. They have lots of american girl books.
Posted by: Melissa | April 29, 2009 at 12:48 PM
Hey Melissa,
That is really cool! :) I wish I had that near me! :)

Hi Liz,
Thanks for letting me use your idea! :)
Cara, I have Hallie too. She was a present from my best friend!

Elizabeth looks SO pretty!! Personally I think it even looks better on Elizabath. I too have noticed that some of the AG dolls are a little taller or bigger than others. For instance, my sister's Julie doll is a little taller than my two dolls. Also, when I switched Mia's outfit and Nicki's outfit, the clothes were baggier on Nicki and tighter on Mia. Anyways, great idea, and the outfit is really pretty!
Posted by: Crystal | April 29, 2009 at 03:31 PM
Hey Crystal!
That is weird-I have noticed that Julie might be taller than Kirsten! Thanks for saying that! :)
Posted by: Quinlyn | April 29, 2009 at 03:35 PM
Yeah me too. Felicity's bottom is a lot bigger that the rest of my dolls.
The ballet costume from AG doesn't seem to fit her.:(
Posted by: Anne | April 29, 2009 at 07:07 PM
Well not a whole lot bigger, just a little.:)
Posted by: Anne | April 29, 2009 at 07:08 PM
My doll Kit is alot bigger than Ruthie. And Ruthie is not even 18in tall, she's 19in.
Posted by: Melissa | April 29, 2009 at 08:55 PM
Hey Melissa!
Wow! :( Do regular doll clothes from AG fit Kit and Ruthie? Can you please do that as a post on your blog? Showing how tall Ruthie and Kit are compared to eachother and maybe a tape measure to see how big they are? That would be great!
Posted by: Quinlyn | April 29, 2009 at 09:49 PM
awwww she looks adorable
Posted by: Iona | April 30, 2009 at 10:24 AM
Sure,
I will do a post on my blog about that. Normal american girl shirts fit Ruthie, but the pants are really lose. They are pretty small on kit so i make most of her clothes.
Posted by: Melissa | April 30, 2009 at 12:50 PM
How many porcelin dolls do you have, Liz? I have five or six.:)
Posted by: Anne | April 30, 2009 at 09:05 PM

Too cute!
I love that dress!
Before I had an AG doll, I used to get porcelian dolls for my birthday. So one day, I got out a dress from this porcelian doll and tried it on Samantha. It all fit perfectly-except the sleeves! :( It was blue and satiny and also white and hat pink ropses and lace, plus it had a matching hat! I alos had a green one, but didn't try that one on. The hat looked good though!
