This past weekend we went to yardsales that were included in the World's Longest Yardsale, that goes 624 miles from Ohio to Alabama. I am always on the lookout for American Girl Items (and even American Girl dolls!), because I have heard of lots of people finding American Girl stuff for really cheap at yardsales. I went to yardsales in the World's Longest Yardsale last year, and didn't have much luck. (but I did find a few doll-sized things.)
Well...with the help of my mom and my sister Hope, this year we found some Pleasant Company/ American Girl items!!
We found 7 American Girl books: Addy's World, Great Girl Food, Meet Felcity, Puzzle Crazy, Best That I Can Be, A Kaya Mystery: The Silent Stranger, and Molly Takes Flight. The paperback books were $.50 cents and hardbacks were $1.00! Some of these books I have never heard of before!
Some Felicity Pamphlets were hidden in the Meet Felicity book, and some stickers were hidden in a book too.
American Girl Buttons (I think they were called Grin Pins), were $.50 cents for two!
American Girl Doll-sized towel was $.50 cents!
Cheerleader skirt and 1 pom-pom and Samantha's Hat and Muff were $1.00 each!
Samantha's Hat and Muff are from 1989!
Jacket and Hat from the Pleasant company "First Day" outfit, was $1.00!
The Jacket and Hat are from 1996!
Doll Hair cape, was .50 cents!
There isn't a Pleasant Company tag on this one, so I think that it is a Non-American Girl outfit. It was 1.00, and I think it is cute! :)
Bitty Bear was .50 cents! I almost passed her up thinking that it was just a ordinary bear but...
...the tag said Pleasant Company! :)
Now this was the biggest surprise of all that we found...
A Mini Kit, Mini Felcity, and Mini Samantha which were 1.50 for all 3! I was looking through a bag of Webkinz they had and then I saw blond hair and picked up Mini Kit! I showed Hope and we quickly searched some more, and out came Mini Felcity and Mini Samantha! I was so surprised and I still am! Mini Kit only came with one shoe, but they were such a great price and are so cute! :D
Hope's dolls and my dolls are so happy to have some new things! :)
Have you ever found anything American Girl or doll-sized at a yardsale/garage sale, flea market, or thrift store? I would love to know! :D

Wow! What a great find. I have never found something at a garage sale yet. But I don't think I want to. The reason why I say that is because I know that I could find more stuff (But more exepensive stuff) At American Girl. I am not trying to be rude if I am being rude. I also know that that has probably been used for many years and have had stains, holes, e.t.c. But I am VERY exited for you. Me and my new doll (MY BRAND NEW DOLL FROM 8 DAYS AGO) just figured out about your website! We love to read your new articles. But anyways. I was just saying if I were you I would go ahead and get allowence to buy the real stuff. But ya I love this article, PLEASE Make more And please respond to me!!! TORI

Hi Tori,
Thanks so much for the comment! :D
The reason that I like buying American Girl stuff at Yardsales is because most of the things at yardsales aren't available from American Girl anymore and are retired. It is very rare to find retired items. Everyone is different though, and that's okay. :)
I am so glad that you have a new doll! That is awesome! :D
I hope you have a good day! :)

hello Liz! Thanks for your lovely comments on our blog! =:D You have a nice site here, I can't believe you found all that great stuff at a yard sale! Wow! =:) The funny thing is, I am so old, I remember when that was just coming out! Yikes! =:O Lol! The "grin pins", the old AG symbol on that towel, the bitty bear, the old books, and that yellow jacket and hat! Yikes! I remember AG stuff from BEFORE that came out! Lol! I am glad these "old" treasures are going to be put to good use again! Enjoy them sweetie! =:D
Love and Hugs!

Oh, and thank you for your sweet comment on college...I am so glad that was helpful to you! That is such an encouragement to me! =:) I am glad you are planning on staying home and wanting to be a mom, that's wonderful! I wasn't good at cooking at first, it took me some time to get good at it (and I still burn things and mess things up sometimes! Lol!).
Oh, and I think it's great that you don't let the world influence you and you still play with your dolls and have fun with them! =:) I think "big girls" can still have fun being "little girls". =;)
Love and Hugs!

(TO JOELLE)COOL! Well I was talking about the real one with girls doing real stuff e.t.c. So that is good.(To LIZ) I think you could also tell us ways that you save up for american girl dolls or american girl doll anything. I am getting the hair care kit for my new doll. She has straight hair so it is easy to brush. It would be so fun to watch a video made from you. I really like your message board to. And I have a couple questions. The first is, Do you have to be a teenager to be on the message board and can you post pictures on the message board? Any ways I can't wait to see more posts!!!

Once, at the Goodwill thrift store, they had the Addy doll (I'm still not sure if it was Addy, or a JLY doll) and a doll bed. I was SO mad that someone else got her before us, though!!!

My BFFL had a party, and she had a doll sized Jets coffee mug for one of the prizes for the games we played, and I WON IT!!! IT'S SO ADORABLE!!!
Posted by: A | January 15, 2010 at 06:29 PM
I went to a garage/moving sale where they just wanted to get rid of things. I found 3 American Girl dolls for $5 each (Addy, Josephine and Molly complete with the glasses and purse....all in great shape and in their full outfits). My daughter was only 3 at the time so I saved them and now she adores them. Later I found the "Just like me doll" for $15 at another garage sale. I really do not do garage sales very much so it was neat that it happened twice.

It's funny how many AG things can be found at yard/garage sales. I purchased three AG dolls (kirsten, felicity, and kailey) from the little gil I use to baby-sit for the night before her garage sale for $50 each. I found a hallmark tin with the original American girls (recipes and cookie cutters still in the shrink wrap) at the church rummage sale for 25 cents! It's amazing what you can find.

Yard Sales are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The stuff are cheap, and most of them are the stuff that are not available today!
Today I racked some pretty major Yard Sale and found a doll hairbrush and cozy winter pajamas for dolls! (original from American Girl!)
Total of only 50 cents!
Boy, this family who's having the Yard Sale is crazy! They have NO IDEA how expensive their stuff is!

The Yard Sales are starting, got a Halloween cat outfit for JLY doll. Also got a Bitty Baby with light hair and blue eyes with org outfit on and the pink hooded coat with detachable bottom for $5. She just needed a bath and the clothes washed, they came out good as new. Hope to find some Addy clothes and a Josephina doll.
