I had heard that the American Girl doll Kirsten Larson would be archived, and it is true! On the Kirsten page of the American Girl website it says that she will be archiving soon! :(
Poor Kirsten! It seems like this time last year American Girl archived Samantha and Nellie, but it went by so fast! I don't know when she won't be available any longer, but maybe around the time Samantha and Nellie's items went. Though, American Girl does say Kirsten will be "archived", not retired. Hopefully she will come back someday along with the Samantha and Nellie! :)
What do you all think about Kirsten Archiving?
EDIT: I signed up for American Girl's Mailing list just about a week ago, to see if I would get an email about it, and I did! Monday October 5th, I got an email from American Girl about Kirsten Archiving!
Here is the email:

I hate hate HATE it!!!!!!!!!
My friend loves kirsten and she doesn't have her!!!!
I completely detest it when american girl retires dolls,
even girls of the year. HEY! i've got an Idea!! maybe american girl can have a period of time where they bring back all the retired dolls and you can buy them!!
From,
Charlotte :)

Posted by: Mackenzie | September 28, 2009 at 07:44 PM
I think that they SHOULDN'T archive any AG doll. I think that if they are going to bring them back why make them leave in the 1st place. We need to protest!!! Who is with me?
Posted by: Dakota | September 28, 2009 at 08:29 PM
thats so sad! especially since I probably won't be able to get her before she is archived...why are they doing this????? ugh. but they might bring these back for the 25th anniversary or something...UGH UGH UGH they should keep all of them! they have never archived any dolls before samantha & nellie, so why are they starting to do this!!!?
Posted by: Gabrielle | September 28, 2009 at 09:32 PM
I really don't under stand why your all mad over this,
i mean, maybe another great doll will come out, I'm not going to protest
Posted by: Rachel | September 28, 2009 at 10:20 PM
That is so sad! Kirsten was my very first doll and they shouldn't archive her :( I would like to get some of her outfits before the holidays are over. :( :(

STOP ARCHIVING DOLLS, AMERICAN GIRL!!!
This makes me so sad. They just keep getting rid of them! They better have a 1920s doll coming out soon to make up for it. :( :(
Posted by: Brenna | September 29, 2009 at 04:38 PM
Everyone should comment to AG that they don't like this idea. On an off chance, maybe they'll change their mind. Post if you emailed them, but obviously if you do stay polite. Maybe we can make a difference.
Posted by: Brenna | September 29, 2009 at 04:40 PM
Why is this so awful? Nobody's getting rid of Kirsten. They're just putting her away for a few years so they can make room for new dolls. A new doll will be released after Kirsten is put away. :) Instead of being angry, let's be SUPER EXCITED!!! :D And, emailing protests to AG won't do anything to 'save' Kirsten.

I know that this has to happen in order for new dolls to be made; but I think it is sad especially for the adults now; who had Kirsten growing up as a little girl. Please check my site out SOON to find what American Girl sent back to me. :)

This is to sad for words! :(
I sent AG an email, and they replied, but they are still archiving her. :(
I just can't believe it!
It's just not fair!
Even though I have Kirsten, it's just too sad! :(
Posted by: Anne | September 29, 2009 at 08:10 PM
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!
That is horrible! Kirsten and her stories are awesome (intense, yes, but great!) and I can't bear to see her leave! I can't believe it. I am still going thru the shock I went thru when I first found out about it!
Posted by: HB | September 29, 2009 at 08:29 PM
Oh my goodness! I really want her now. I'll miss her more than Samantha and Nellie. I never thought of getting her before but now I really want her!
Posted by: Maeve | September 30, 2009 at 01:04 PM
It is so sad. I heard the news and almost broke into tears. She was my first doll!!!! I save SIX months to get her (and that was when I was younger so that was an extremely long time to wait). I wonder if this will be a yearly thing. I certainly hope not. I mean, Sam's archival was announced n Oct. 13th last year. My only hope is that Kirsten, Samantha and nellie will return (in revised addition I am sure) in 2011 for AG's 25th birthday!!!

This is terrible!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it
Posted by: carley | October 01, 2009 at 11:49 AM
I had a feeling that they were going to do this, so right after Samantha got archived, I bought Kirsten so I'd have at least one original before they were all discontinued.
If you're thinking of a kirsten or a molly, you better get one while you can.
Posted by: hi | October 01, 2009 at 03:40 PM
I'm still so upset. :( I hate to see dolls leave, and Kirsten is practically classic. What time period dolls would you all want to replace her? I want a 1920's doll so bad, so at least maybe this is my oppurtunity to get one.
Posted by: Brenna :) | October 01, 2009 at 07:55 PM
No! Kisten don't go! I loved her clothes! She was so cute! :(
Posted by: Cara | October 03, 2009 at 06:18 PM
I've gotten over the shock now.
Posted by: Maeve | October 04, 2009 at 09:11 AM
I think they are going to make Rebbeca's friend, Ana.
Posted by: Maeve | October 05, 2009 at 11:07 AM
WHY!WHY!WHY!They can't do this!I buy
Gwen,next thing I know,Kirsten is
retireing.I wish I bought her instead of
Gwen.I'm sending a email!They just can't do this!I can't believe it.Ohhhh!
Thats why shes not in the catologs.I've
been wondering why.
Posted by: Leanna | October 06, 2009 at 08:56 PM
Kirsten is the only doll that I have! I don't want her to go!
Posted by: MG89 | October 08, 2009 at 08:43 AM
Dear Liz,
I have an idea (whether it will work or not, I don't know) Maybe if you made a "Archives Petition Page" and lots of girls signed it, and you sent it to A.G, maybe, just maybe, they will listen and stop Archiving doll! I hate it! Kirsten was my Fave Historical doll! And I've always wanted them to make a movie! I was so sad when I heard about it! Please think about my idea. It might just work, when A.G realizes how much we dislike them doing it!
Posted by: hannah | October 08, 2009 at 01:53 PM
I don't understand what it means when they archive them. Does that mean that Kirsten dolls and books own't be sold any more?
Posted by: Emily | October 22, 2009 at 10:05 PM
I think it is horrible but I think your dolls should protest again
Posted by: kaylynn | October 23, 2009 at 11:03 AM
Kirsten is the only doll that I have and I guess I'm okay with the archiving and stuff, but what bothers me is that fans were so moved by Samanatha getting archived, but no one seems care that another one of the original 3 is getting a archived. It is just really annoying.

I GOT HER :) :) :) :) :) :}
=^..^= MEOW!!! LOL
Posted by: Dakota | November 07, 2009 at 06:58 PM
I think it would be cool if(in a few years)someone took all the dolls(historical, girl of the year, just like you),even the retired ones, and made a store in every capital city in every state and would sell them!
Posted by: Sarah | November 29, 2009 at 11:48 AM
I would love a 18 something Texas cowgirl really bad. And that makes me so mad. American girl is just doing that so that more people will buy "the new doll." See this is the first time I commented on this, and all I ever got of Kirsten was her accessories which are very helpful to me. Fortunetly my mom is good at sewing so I guess we can make some clothes for her and she can share with Samantha and Julie. Boy that makes me really mad. I almost screamed when I saw the Kirsten page on AG, though, too!

I don't like it either when they retire dolls. It made me really upset when they retired Samantha, who is my favorite. I finally got a really nice used one for a great price. I think Kirsten had some of the best outfits. I wonder if they will introduce a new character, but maybe they won't because they just introduced Rebecca.

It is so rediculous when they archive dolls. The historical characters, essepecially the origonals, have such a big spot in so many peoples hearts. It is so frustrating that they would do ths to all of us. If anyone hears any news of either Samantha or Kirsten coming back, please email me the news: antonette10@cox.net
Posted by: Antonette | June 04, 2010 at 12:15 PM
I know it's not close to Kirsten's time period, I would love to see a 1984 doll!

wwwwwwwwwwwwwhyyy does kirsten have to leave i have wanted her but i do not have her kirsten is awsome
Posted by: nicki | August 15, 2010 at 06:04 PM
First Samantha and Nellie
then Kirsten
and now this year they are Archiving Molly and Emily!!!!!! I hope they bring them back for a bit because I just loved Nellie!
Posted by: Megan | August 16, 2010 at 09:12 AM
My mom says that AG is doing this so people will rush to by the doll and her accessories and I think she's right. I mean, half of you guys posted "NOOOO! I love kirsten and don't want her to go!" It makes me really sad to see them go though, because AG is kinda going more and more Just Like Me or whatever they're called these days and less historical. BUT GOOD NEWS THE DOLLS ARE AVAILABLE AS MINIS!!!!!!!!!!!
