I can't believe this is happening! American Girl is Archiving (retiring) Felicity and Elizabeth!!! Today American Girl put "Farewell Felicity" on Felicity & Elizabeth's Page of the American Girl website. This is extremely sad! Felicity and Elizabeth's time period is what made America what it is today. It is a huge part of American History. :(
Also, what's sad is that I was planning on getting Felicity as my next doll for Christmas this year! I was saving for a new camera, but because of Felicity Archiving, I am going to get into some of my savings and buy Felicity really soon. I know their collection will sell out fast! My Elizabeth is excited about her best friend coming! :) What do you think of Felcity and Elizabeth being Archived?

firstie! I know ITS SO SAD I wanted her too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its SO unfair! It is isn't it? and I love Felicity, her time period IS what made America America!!!!!!! :( :( :( :(

I'm so sad! :( I wanted to get Elizabeth next summer at the American Girl Place! But now I can't. Maybe I'll ask for her for my birthday or Christmas.

Holy cow... I knew it was coming, justnot this soon. My mom apparently found out before me and ordered the BFF set for Christmas. So glad that I'll have a bit of AG history! Also, I was expecting Molly & Emily to leave first since she was part of the original trio.
Posted by: Gaby | August 27, 2010 at 07:49 PM
I think it stinks! I have also asked for Felicity for Christmas. I just hate seeing these two go!!
Posted by: Leah | August 27, 2010 at 08:18 PM
I want Felicity sooooo bad!!! I am going to the ag place in october. I hope she will still be there. I think she will be! I love her so much!!!! Liz i hope you do photo story on Felicity and Elizibeth.

if you look in the catalogue it has an order thing for elizabeth so you can keep the catalogue and on christmas you can use it
Posted by: Priya | August 27, 2010 at 09:22 PM
How could Mattel retire Felicity and Elizabeth? Why not Molly? Even though I already have Felicity it makes me mad. They don't even care how much girls love her and her stories.
Posted by: Olivia (DixieChicks8) | August 27, 2010 at 09:43 PM
NO!!!! I really like Felicity and Elizabeth! I only have 20 dollars saved right now to buy them and it stinks that they'll be archiving! Do you know if they're archiving before or after Christmas?
Posted by: Trini, Kirsten, Rebecca, Jess and Kaitlin | August 27, 2010 at 10:42 PM
What?
I already have Felicity and Elizabeth, but I really wanted her table and chairs. I just got Felicity in like March. Elizabeth was my very first doll.:) Why couldn't it have been someone like Kaya who has no clothing and not even a last name? You can't even play with her...
Posted by: Meghan | August 27, 2010 at 10:53 PM
Oh no! Do you know, is she available until the current stock is gone, or does she leave after a certain date?
I want a Felicity myself!
Posted by: Jen | August 27, 2010 at 11:05 PM
Ugh I got Felicity so that later on I could get Elizabeth but now I can't and I don't have enough time to save up for her for Christmas
Posted by: Sierra | August 28, 2010 at 03:09 AM
they should have made molly go, not felicity. Even though I have her she's my favorite
Posted by: lissie | August 28, 2010 at 09:08 AM
Dear Liz,
I think that it is very sad! I own Felicitey and Elizebeth and Felicitey was my first doll and Elizebeth my third. But when they retire a new doll that means they bring out a new one. Butit still very very sad! I was also planning on getting some of thier outfits. When are they leaving?

Posted by: Kaylynn | August 28, 2010 at 09:15 AM
I can not believe this!I also thought that Molly was retiring next because she, Samantha, and Kirsten were the first three American Girl Historical Characters. And Felicity has already been retied once. One year or so before her movie came out, Felicity had a different meet dress. She went on "vacation" and came out with a new meet dress and then had her movie.
Posted by: Emma | August 28, 2010 at 09:37 AM
I had always thought Felicity was so pretty. My Friend got her in February. I love to play with her hair! I want one of my one! But I think she will go out of stores officially in December, Kaylnny. So maybe some of you could get her on Christmas.

I have Felicity and Elizabeth, and that is some very sad news. She is the doll from the time period of the founding of our country.:( Colonial girls would be disappointed to know that their sacrifices in starting our country will no longer be a part of American Girl. -Kit Kat

Posted by: kaylyn | August 28, 2010 at 12:08 PM
Hi Girls!
For the ones that asked, American Girl says that Felicity and her collection will be avaiable while supplies last. I think she goes away officially after Christmas. Though, if you really want Felicity or Elizabeth or any of their collection get it now if you can! While supplies last doesn't usually last that long. Last year in 2009 when Kirsten retired, she was back-ordered until Spring! Things sell out really quickly, it's crazy!
Have a Great Weekend! :D

HI Liz,
I have Elizabeth:) Thank goodness, so I have one of them atleast:)
I will see if tehre is anything that I want to add to my Christmas list for her, although I already have kind of a lot so I mgiht have to put some things on hold :)
You'd think that they would keep Felicity, Addy, Molly and Kit. Since they are really important times in American History. (I know all of the dolls are but these are the "most important").
Have a good weekend.

I'm really sad too! I hope I can snag Felicity before she goes -she was always my very favorite, but I thought she'd always be around, so I've bought other dolls instead. Now I have to scramble to earn enough. :(
She's the only doll with that bright red hair -all the MyAGs that have 'red' hair are like strawberry blond. I hope they start making other dolls with her hair color.
Posted by: Sady | August 28, 2010 at 04:35 PM
Lilly you are right! They should keep the most important dolls. Well at least they keep the books! I think they should never retire any of them!!!!!! who's with me???? Go to my blog graceandabby.typepad.com/giggles/ and leave a comment on the Felicity post about your feelings about them retiring. Thank you all, Grace:)

Felicity has been my favorite Historical Doll for as long as I can remember. And your right Liz, her time period is what made America. it is also my favorite time period!!!!! NOT FAIR! All the original American girl dolls are leaving.
Posted by: Marissa P. | August 29, 2010 at 06:12 PM
This is SAD!!! D; I personally love the colonial stories, but American Girl really shouldn't retire ANY dolls beacause ALL of them are special in American history! Even Kaya has a story behind her... I think it's just because American Girl wants to get more money and say "Everyone Felicity and Elizabeth are retiring!!! You better get them now!", and people get them. (This is just my opinion).
Posted by: Alma | August 29, 2010 at 06:18 PM
what!!!!!!!!!!! i can't believe it! i have felicity I only got her when i was 7 years old!
Posted by: samantha | August 29, 2010 at 06:54 PM
You girls know that they never retire the mini dolls! They are only $22! ( + shipping and handling.) so if your parents say you can't have a new ag doll, get the mini dolls!
Posted by: Grace | August 30, 2010 at 09:52 AM
But the mini dolls just aren't the real ones! You can play with them but it's not the same! It wont ever be with AG retiring dolls!:(
Posted by: Alma | August 30, 2010 at 01:14 PM
Oh and by the way, I know this is really off subject, but my A Life of Faith doll Elsie's hair is just gross! It's ratty at the ends only, but I don't want to cut it and I've brushed it with a wire pick, washed it with extremely nice shampoo, and conditioned it. It's all because I used a brush on it instead of a pick beore I got the pick maybe a month and a half ago. The rest of her hair is fine, except that!!!!! Do you have any advice?
Posted by: Hannah A. | August 30, 2010 at 01:58 PM
I HATE this!! It's so sad! I thought that molly was going next as well, but this was a surprise! I have both dolls, Elizabeth's bed and the table, but I hardly have any of their clothes... I know what I'll be getting for Christmas!! :) American Girl really shouldn't do this because history never changes eventhough what they think is important might! They used to be all about reading the books, learning about history... remember the history mysteries?? but now they're about online stuff and dolls that look like you with no historical background at all! They should NEVER retire the doll collection itself, sure retire some outfits, but NEVER the whole doll and their world!!! Do you really think girls will be HAPPY that this is happening?? Definitely NOT! Just because Mattel needs a fatter wallet doesn't mean that depriving girls of a lifetime of educational fun is how they should do it...I just don't get it! This was what the girl of the year dolls were for- to retire at the end of every year- NOT to retire the regular dolls that every girl in the U.S. dreams of since they're little... Most people don't have enough money right now to buy even one doll-- much less get everyone before they're gone because they won't ever be back again! I'm sorry guys that I wrote sooo much but this kind of thing just makes me SOOOOOO MAD!!! :( well, it makes me more sad that mad actually! This should never happen!!!
Posted by: Kellee | August 30, 2010 at 02:01 PM
I'm upset too! I don't understand why they have to retire them! I think if they retire them, kids won't want to buy them because there favorites keep on leaving! There are so many stories that kids like to read and they like to buy the dolls to act it out in real life. American girls are so amazing. why are they leaving??? can you please come to my blog called http://graceandabby.typepad.com/giggles/ and go to the Felicity post and tell me what you think about her leaving.
Posted by: Grace | August 30, 2010 at 03:04 PM

Posted by: Olivia | August 31, 2010 at 08:57 PM
They will come out with more dolls... just like when Samantha left, they "replaced" her with Rebecca... which wasn't nearly as good in my opinion... sure she has some pretty clothes, but the whole Samantha story is a lot more intresting to me than Rebecca's... I dont know I guess I just like the pleasant company idea of fundamentals in history and education while letting girls be girls as long as possible... I mean, I just turned 17 and LOVE american girl still. I think Mattel is making it be the barbie doll that rakes in so much money. This is just sad. :(

AG was never in it for the education and the time girls spend, but on the money! Pleasent company on the other hand was good. OMG!! And btw, AG has new outfits. But they look kinda old school... :O
Posted by: Aisha | September 02, 2010 at 05:22 AM
NNNNNOOOOO THIS ISN'T FAIR!!! I LOVE MY ELIZABETH AND I LOVE FELICITY!!! I WISH THEY DIDN'T GET RID OF THE HISTORICAL DOLLS!!! THOSE ARE THE ONES EVERYONE LOVES!! THEY ALREADY GET RID OF THE GIRL OF THE YEAR DOLLS BUT GETTING RID OF THE HISTORICAL DOLLS IS TO MUCH. I thought Kaya or Addy would go first!! I'm mad and sad that my favorite dolls are GOING!!! I wanted to get Felicity for my B-Day in January but it's to late. And now if you want any of there stuff it will cost a lotttt. The best place to go is Ebay!! YOU HEAR ME GO TO EBAY NOW AND GET THERE STUFF BEFORE IT'S ALL GONE FOR EVER!!!! ;.......(
Posted by: I'm really very sad right now | September 02, 2010 at 11:41 AM
I don't like it at all! My two favorite dolls are Samantha and Felicity, and those are the ones they are archiving!
Posted by: Amy | September 02, 2010 at 06:19 PM
They should retire Kaya instead. I don't know anyone that even has her. Plus she only has like 2 outfits. I'm glad I already got Felicity and Elizabeth for my birthday 2 years ago! But if Felicity must go, I'd like to see her replaced with a 1920s doll or a doll who lives on the Oregon Trail. Maybe even a 1950s doll. That would be so cool!
Posted by: brenna | September 03, 2010 at 11:05 AM
I cannot believe! Why Felicity? Why Elizabeth? Why NOW? Their time period is one of the most crucial parts of American History. It's something every American should know about. If they take away the story, many girls will not learn about history in the same way. Felicity's story is what really got me interested in the Revolution. American Girl opens doors to young girls by teaching them about their heritage. That was the reason why American Girl was started. I was really thankful that Mattel wasn't taking that away, but now I'm not sure. If they take that away, what will be left of American Girl? How many girls will we lose before they stop?
Posted by: Sarah | September 04, 2010 at 02:11 PM
I just stumbled upon this blog when I was Googling whether or not you can find AG stuff at flea markets (the answer seems to be yes! ;)) I'm a junior in college, but I came across my four dolls not too long ago and wanted to get them fixed up to put on display in my room. I've really been out of the loop, so I started doing some digging. I've been most unhappy with everything I've found so far. Not only do I really want a Nicki doll (but am unsure if I'm willing to shell out $250+ on eBay for one,) but then I find that Mattel has been steadily "archiving" a lot of the old collections. There is nothing for teens or pre-teens anymore- the Illuma-Rooms and Girls of Many Lands are gone. Now the company is destroying the foundations on which Pleasant Rowland built her company back in the 80s. Samantha was probably the most popular doll in the entire AG line, but now she's gone. Gone, too, are Kirsten and now Felicity. They have added Julie and Rebecca since I was last a loyal customer, but something tells me that Mattel aims to permanently put away the historical characters and streamline AG to be a more expensive version of Barbie. Besides, I'm not totally sold on having a doll from the 1970s. It just seems to soon for me, even though the 70s were nearly 40 years ago.
Just my two cents. Say, if we all rallied together and started sending e-mails and snail mail letters to the company, do you think they might bring back the old favorites and stop this archiving nonsense? Worth a try!
Posted by: Nicole | September 06, 2010 at 10:38 PM
@nicole hey! that just might work!!! we could totally do that! all of us could get together and keep sending emails until they bring back the archived dolls! but i dont mean no point-on-sending-these-emails kinda emails, i mean the type of emails that actually mean something. and that could get the staff at AG moving and be touched by how much we care for AG history! who's with me?!?!:D
Posted by: Aisha | September 07, 2010 at 04:22 AM
I agree with what some people said. They shouldn't retire Felicity, Addy, Kit or Molly because they come from such important time periods. They SHOULD retire Kaya, because she barely has any outfits and accessories and people don't really get her. My cousin (the only person I know who has her) says her hair gets messy really easily and she doesn't even fit in with other dolls. But I doubt they will because they probably feel like they have to have a native American. It would have made more sense to retire Kaya and then give Kirsten a best friend doll of her Native American friend.
Posted by: Simone | September 08, 2010 at 10:12 AM
I think it is outrageous that they are retiring Felicity. I agree with the individual above who said this is a vital period of American history that young girls and families need to learn about in a dynamic way. My daughter's Felicity doll as well as her books have informed her greatly about history. I'm very against this. But if they do end up retiring her they should come up with an Pilgrim doll so early American history doesn't fall by the wayside in the American Girl lineup.

I think it's pretty ridiculous to retire the historical girls. I had Kirsten growing up and my sister had Samantha. Felicity was always my favorite though, and now she is being archived as well! I do not like the direction in which they are taking the company with these modern dolls and bitty babies. They're all well and good, but you can find those kind of dolls in any wal-mart or target. They are doing what Disney did to all of the classic movies and they will probably re-release them for "a limited time only" in the future to create mass hysteria and generate sales. It's sad that they have strayed so far from what they used to be.
Posted by: Jes | October 18, 2010 at 02:10 PM
Aisha- I disagree entirely! Kaya has plenty of outfits and accessories, and she is from the MOST important American time period! Obviously all the others are important too, but hers is one of the most important and most special time periods there is! And about the hair, it's not supposed to be taken out of the braids. Besides, don't all of the dolls hair get messy and tangled easily? Kaya just has more of it so it is a little harder to control! Also, on a more general note, they might not be retiring Addy or Josefina or Kaya because they don't want to seem racist. Just a thought.
Posted by: Tinker Bell | October 18, 2010 at 09:48 PM
I am VERY disappointed in American Girl! Obviously they don't have the same goals Pleasant Company did! I am a long time collector, and I have not been this upset since Samantha was retired! I have Samantha, Nellie, Kaya, Josefina, Felicity, and Elizabeth. I am convinced that they are trying to retire all of my dolls! Personally, I think they are going to try and slowly retire all the historical dolls, and then replace them with their own versions of the original dolls. That's what they did with Samantha, was it not? And of course, the new dolls will have more pretty outfits and lovely furniture, but will they bother with the historical information? NO! After they archived Samantha, I boycotted AG for several months. I am tempted to do the same thing here, except I want more for my Felicity and Elizabeth collection! I may just go on eBay.... Personally, I think that if we all joined together and boycotted American Girl (and wrote them letters and emails, of course) they might actually do something. They might actually bring back the old dolls! It's worth a shot, I think.
Posted by: Briar Rose | October 18, 2010 at 09:58 PM
I agree with Briar Rose. I saved a long time to buy Addy. But, I wanted to buy all of the historic dolls. Pleasant Company had in mind a doll that taught girls values learned by different girls living in different time periods. The lessons learned brought history to life as well as helped girls feel connected with girls of the past. The stories were exciting, kept girls attention and were positive. The doll clothes were authentic designs from the periods in history. My Addy became a time traveler, for I bought outfits from all of the period doll collections, including the underwear. These fine clothes and accessories made the dolls a valuable heirloom, that a girl could keep and share with future generations.
Now, the American girl dolls are empty headed Barbie Dolls. They get cucumber facials at the age of eight, relax in a tub of bubbles, and get manicures. When they participate in activities, they ice skate in long princess gloves, relax in a hammock, and bask in a self-absorbed world of nothingness, exactly like Barbie.
I was a huge Barbie fan. I wanted all of her world: swimming pools, houses, planes, sports cars. But, although I acquired them, I found them to be boring. Rarely did I play with them. Barbie really was a bore. Just something to look at. The Pleasant Company dolls were well thought out period dolls. Each outfit came with a story. More stories were added over time. A lot of research went into the doll before ever it was produced. Kaya is really a true American Girl. After all, the Indians were already living here. However, she was well researched as can be seen by the details of here outfits, her doll, the saddle of her horse.
When I learned that Mattel bought Pleasant Company, I feared Barbie was on the way. And, now I believe they will only have American Girl Today.
If you want to boycott Mattel American Girl I am on board.
