Last weekend my family went to a huge Goodwill Thrift Store, and I found a very big surprise! Once we were getting ready to leave the store I went over to the display case area, and there was a Girls of Many Lands Doll!!
Girls of Many Lands was a line of books produced by American Girl for older girls in 2002, but discontinued in 2005. There were 8 dolls, each was a girl 12 years old and lived in a different time period in a different country. I've found and read some of their books before.
I found the one named Cécile and bought her for $5! Here are some pictures...
Isn't she beautiful? She's 9 inches tall, and I was so surprised to see how pretty she was. Her time period is 1711 in France.
Her head is able to move and be tilted, I love how she looks like she's thinking. :)
The back of her dress is gorgeous!
The American Girl tag is in the inside of her dress too. :)
She is very posable and fun to take pictures of.
And, here are the two Cécile's! Girls of Many Lands Cécile is a little tiny compared to American Girl Cécile. hehe :)
I hope you enjoyed the pictures!! Do you have any of the Girls of Many Lands Dolls or found anything at thrift stores lately? I would love to know!

I've herad of those before! I always wanted to read the books! She is a very pretty doll, and i love her dress! Congratulations on your find! My Emily just had wonderful surprise! She just got a horse! I ordered it off of eBay and when it came today, I found it's face cracked and it had crayon markings literally all over it! I sanded the markings away and Emily loves her new horse, Mimmy!

Congratulations! Finding Cécile for $5 is quite the deal! I have all eight GOMLs, seven of which I got from AG when they were on sale and being discontinued (and Kathleen came home a few years later, after finding her on the secondary market). It's a shame that AG got rid of these dolls. I love the idea of having "World Girls" from various points in history rather than just points in US history. I never imagined I'd have them all and really just wanted Neela and Kathleen, my favorites, but I love them all now. I'm glad my mother and cousin decided to gift me all of them.
I haven't found anything AG in thrift stores lately. Goodwill around here is becoming trashy, I'm not even kidding. I've literally been finding trash in the toy bin. The last AG item I found in a thrift store was Kit's bedside table - sans legs - and that was in an upscale thrift store (not Goodwill!).

You have all the good GoodWills! Mine doesn't, nor has is ever, have any thing from AG or for 18 inch dolls! My friend was tossing out her old doll bunk bed, which was broken, but I took it home and fixed it. Hehe, Felicity and Kit love it!

I have Cecile and Minuk, they are both gorgeous, but I have to say Cecile is my favorite. She is just so detailed. Did you get her fan that came with her?

My sister got the complete set of books the Christmas after the dolls came out, so I've read most of them before :) My favorite books were Cecile and Kathleen, but they were all good :) We don't have any of the dolls, but our friend Kathryn had Spring Pearl (I think).

I just thought,I read the Isabel book a year ago and really enjoyed reading it. Thanks for telling us about them. :)

I read the Isabel book for a book report then found out they had dolls for her, but that was after they stopped making them. So I was in an antique shop and found her and got her for Christmas that year.

Wow... Cecile (Girl of Many Lands doll) is really pretty! For some reason, she kinda looks like Cinderella with that beautiful blue dress that she's wearing. American Girl Cecile is really pretty, too :)

Hi Liz,
I have a few of the dolls, and haven't read the books though. Cecile is hard to find and she sells for a lot of money on eBay. I got 1 Spring Pearl when I was a baby (well my mom got it and saved it for me). I got 2 more when American Girl was discontinuing them and they were 25% off, and then I got 2 more on eBay. I have Leyla, Neela, Minuk and Saba (and Spring Pearl).
I don't have Cecile, and she isn't usually available (unless you pay a fortune).
What a great find, and it's cool you have both Ceciles now. :)

Lauren Sanchez:
You can get these dolls from the internet websites (such as Ebay or Ecrater), but they are pricey.
And yes, they are porcelain dolls, handcrafted, and given the precise details they need to be so beautiful!
I hope you find them!
