Is your doll ready to see some fireworks? Here's a fun and easy craft to give a little spark to your dolls' outfit for America's Independence day!
We're going to make some doll hair clips out of felt!
Let's get started!
First, you need some supplies:
- Red, White, and Blue Felt
- Scissors
- Ruler (not pictured...oops!)
- Small hairclips
- Hot Glue and Glue Gun (if you don't have hot glue, you can try regular glue, but it might take a while to dry)
- And, a Parent/Guardian to help you!
After you have all of your supplies out and ready, grab up your ruler and felt! Measure 2 inches wide by 1 inch tall.
Use your scissors to cut out three rectangles, 1 of each patriotic color.
Now this part needs parent help and supervision! Stack your three felt rectangles together and have your parent hot glue the felt together on the top of one of the long sides.
This will keep your hairclip from coming apart.
Begin cutting fringes into your felt leaving a 1/2 inch base where you glued the pieces together.
Keep cutting until you get to the end of the rectangle! (It works best if you cut thin fringe pieces and not too thick)
Carefully roll up and place a drop of glue on the bottom of the uncut felt. Let a parent help you; you don’t want to burn your fingers.
We're almost done!! Get out your small metal hairclip (you can find these at most craft stores).
Then place another drop of hot glue on the base of the rolled up felt, and lightly press the end side of the metal hairclip onto the glue.
After waiting a few seconds for the glue to dry, poof the felt back up.
Your doll now has her very own 4th of July hairclip! If you make a hairclip for your doll, I'd love to see it! You can email me a picture at email@americangirlfan.com.
You can make these for yourself too...just cut felt rectangles of 5 inches wide by 2 inches tall instead and use a bigger hairclip. :)
I hope you and your doll enjoy the festivities and that you have fun making your doll a few crafts too!

That is a really cute idea!

I made one for my doll and one for me. So cute! Though the one for my doll is smaller than that one...

And I used regular glue.

Those are ADORABLE. I may try a variation on the idea using some leftover denim scraps that I have in my scrap bag. If it comes out decent I'll send a pic.
