Winter is upon us, it has been freezing here! My dolls have been curled up by the fireplace with a nice blanket. Today I'm going to show you how to make a blanket for your doll too!
This craft is super easy to do and so much fun!
Let's get started!
First you will need some supplies:
- Half-yard of patterned fleece (A half-yard is cheaper than a full yard and it's plenty for at least two doll blankets. Cost only around $2-$3 for me.)
- Half-yard of solid colored fleece
- Sheers or Sharp Scissors
- Ruler or Tape-measure
After you have everything ready, pull out your ruler. Begin measuring your patterned fleece 20 Inches long (You can mark with a marker if you'd like)
Then measure it 18 inches wide. With your scissors cut out the rectangle of fleece and repeat the measurements with your second solid fleece.
After they are cut out, put your patterned fleece on top of your solid one, making sure the pattern is on the brightest side. It's okay if your two rectangles don't line up perfectly and as you can see with mine, your line doesn't have to be perfectly straight. Once your finished, you'll never notice. :)
Now we're going to cut some strips along the edges. Measure 2 and half inch high (it's okay if you even reach 3 inches) and cut.
Between each strip you cut make them 1 inch apart from each other.
It should start looking like this! Cut around all four edges and cut off the two strips on each corner to make it easier when you begin tying.
Once you're done cutting the strips, it's time to tie! Bring togehter the pattern strip and the solid strip underneath and tie to form a pretty knot. I double-knotted my knots to make sure they stayed put.
Tie every strip until you get to the end! Knot, knot, knot! It doesn't have to look perfect either. Like my mom always says this is a very forgiving project, you can't mess it up! :)
After you've tied all the knots...you have a finished doll blanket!
You might have some fleece leftover, so here's a simple way to make a doll-sized pillow to go with your blanket!
Measure your fabric 8 inches long.
Then measure it 5 and half inches wide and cut out your two fleece rectangles.
Do the same technique as you did the no-sew blanket, but in a smaller way. Cut the strips only 1 inch high and a half inch apart. Tie the knots the same way, but leave an opening on one of the sides. With some leftover fleece strips you have, stuff them into the opening to make the pillow fluffy. Then tie the rest!
Now your doll has a brand-new blanket and pillow for those cold winter nights!
Mia looks like she's having sweet dreams! :)
I also made another blanket with scottie dogs! So cute!
If you make a doll blanket and/or pillow for your doll I would love to see! Feel free to send me a picture at firstname.lastname@example.org
I hope you and your doll have fun with this! Stay warm!
