After coming back home from their fun trip to the pumpkin patch, Kit and Abbey helped each other carry their heavy pumpkins into the kitchen and set them on the newspaper covered table.
They were so excited to begin! Kit ran to go get the carving knifes and supplies.
"Okay, we're ready!" Kit told Abbey excitedly giving her a carving knife. "We first need to cut the tops off of our pumpkins."
Abbey very carefully cut through the top of her pumpkin, tracing a jagged circle around it.
Once she was finished cutting all around the top of hers, Kit pulled off the lid of her pumpkin. Now, it was time to dig in and get all of the pumpkin goop out...yuck!
"Ewwww, it's so wet and slimy!!" both of the girls said, while giggling.
"Getting pumpkin goop out sure is gross," Abbey told Kit, "But, for some reason it's the most fun part!"
Kit and Abbey tried to get out as much pumpkin goop as they could, and held out their yucky hands a few inches away. "Let's go wash up and clean our hands!" Kit suggested, and Abbey quickly followed.
After they had cleaned up and put aside the pumpkin goop, they were ready to draw on their pumpkin design! Abbey and Kit had talked earlier and agreed that they wouldn't show each other their pumpkins until after they were all done. Surprises are always more fun!
Abbey decided on a nice "springy" design to carve, she missed the nice and sunny weather already.
When they finished drawing their design pattern, Kit and Abbey patiently cut and punched out all of the small pieces. Finally...
...they were done!! "Ta-da!" Kit exclaimed, "Oh, I just love your flower, Abbey, it's so cute!"
"Thanks, I love yours too! That bow really gives your pumpkin the finishing touch!" Abbey replied sweetly, "Hey...how about we turn out the lights and light them up!"Kit thought that was a great idea and after putting in the candles, flipped off the light switch.
The pumpkins glowed brightly, shining their happy smiles.
Kit and Abbey's smiles matched their pumpkins too! They had picked out the two best pumpkins, did a great job carving them, and most of all-had a fun time together!
