You may remember this past Summer, I did a review on a unique purse/doll carrier made by a company called myWallaby. They also donated their Pink Joey Wallet for our Doll Costume Photo Contest in October. myWallaby is run by Eric and Myriam, a husband and wife team who love to make quality doll products for girls...and of course dolls too! I wanted to get to know more about myWallaby and how they came up with the idea of their shop, with an interview with Eric! (Stay tuned for something special at the end!)
How did you come up with idea of your business-myWallaby?
My wife and I first started to develop the idea while we were visiting with a friend back in early 2008. We were looking through a photo album of her childhood when we saw several pictures of her with a light blue messenger bag. When we asked her about it, she said that it was one of her favorite possessions from her childhood. For some reason, that light blue bag really stuck in our minds and later, we discussed how it would be nice to create something special that girls would cherish. We wanted to make our bag unique and when we put our minds to it we thought about how wonderful it would be for girls to have a nice quality bag that they could use to carry their favorite doll around with them.
How would you describe your designing process?
Time intensive. We took our time designing the myWallaby Doll Carrier. From start to finish, it took ten prototypes and over a year and a half to come up with the final product. One thing you learn is that you really need persistence to stick with it. You also need to come up with a few design priorities and stick with it. For us, it was creating a bag that could function as a purse and doll carrier and also would position the doll facing forward, which we felt was more natural than toting the doll on your back. Every version of our bag moved us in those two directions.
What inspires your new doll products?
I would have to say quality. Our goal for each of our doll products is to craft the best quality product in its class. Nothing would please us more than for our products to eventually become keepsakes that girls will want to keep and cherish forever. A favorite childhood bag, a favorite childhood wallet –- that would make us feel very proud.
What’s the product or offering in your shop that you’re most excited about right now? Tell us about it.
I would have to say the scarf set –- mainly because we just launched it and we are getting a lot of positive feedback about it. As my wife would say, it has a high cute factor and is very suitable, given the cold winter months ahead of us.
How exciting, and guess what?! myWallaby has generously donated their brand-new Pink Doll Scarf Set to give away to one of you!!
The myWallaby Scarf Set for dolls comes with a sweater knit hat with a flower design, knit scarf with button closure, and a pair of mittens! SO cute!
