Happy Chinese New Year to you and your doll! To celebrate the New Year, I'm going to show you how to make a beautiful Chinese Lantern for your American Girl doll!
Let's get started!
First you will need some supplies:
- Pretty paper of any design or color
- A Ruler
- Scissors
- A Pencil
-
Double-sided tape (you can use glue or regular tape too, but for me double-sided tape works better)
- And, a parent or guardian to help you! :)
Once you have all of your supplies, choose what color paper you want, and grab your ruler and pencil. Measure and mark 5 inches wide by 3 inches tall piece of the paper.
Then, cut out the piece of paper with your scissors.
After you have your rectangle, fold it long ways.
Grab your ruler and pencil again! This time mark every half inch on your folded rectangle.
After you mark the whole paper, use your scissors to cut every mark about an inch or half way. Make sure to cut carefully.
When you're done cutting, your paper should look like this. Your doll's lantern is almost done!
Roll your lantern, to look like this. Push down on it to give it a more popped-out look. Use your double-sided tape to tape the side of your lantern...
Now, all you need is a handle for your doll's lantern.
To make one, cut a 4 inch wide by a half inch tall strip of paper.
Then just get a small sliver of tape, to tape the handle on the inside of the lantern.
Ta-da! Your doll now has her very own Chinese Lantern for Chinese New Year! Julie loved decorating the house with her lanterns, and can't wait to celebrate when her friend Ivy arrives! ;)
If you make a lantern for your doll, I would love to see it! Email me a picture at [email protected] and I'll post it. :)
Hope you have a very rich and prosperous New Year!
