Music is awesome, don't you agree? Everywhere we go there is music of some kind, even at a restaurant or store! Though, creating your own music with an instrument is even better.
Today I'm going to show you how to make your doll a guitar! This is such a fun craft. Let's get started!
First you'll need some supplies:
- Cardboard or thick cardstock
- Scissors
- Three paper clips
- Large rubber bands
- Flat wooden craft stick (I got a pack of them cheap at Walmart)
- Glue
- Marker
- Shiny cardstock or other decorations
- And, the Doll Guitar Pattern
Before we get into the instructions, here is the free pattern printable for the guitar.
Click the link or picture above to print it out.
After you cut out the pattern, trace around it on a piece of cardboard or thick cardstock. You'll need to cut out two guitar shapes. Then, snip off the neck of the guitar pattern and cut out the body of the guitar only.
Set that aside for now and cut the wooden craft stick into two pieces, each an inch and a half long. These will be the bridges of the guitar.
Glue one of them an inch below the circle opening. Glue the other one an inch below the top of the guitar neck.
Totally optional, but with your scissors make small indents with your scissors. This will help keep each of the guitar strings in place. Ask a parent for help as this can be a bit harder to do. :)
Undo one of your paper clips and use the sharp tip to poke holes beneath the craft stick. Go over the holes again with the tip of your scissors to make them bigger. I poked three holes but you can do as many as you want...just more holes means more strings.
Do the same thing and poke holes above the other craft stick at the top.
Now get out your rubber bands, these will be your strings. You will need two paper clips too. Begin by cutting one of the rubber bands in half.
Then tie one end the rubber band along the long edge of a paper clip.
Make sure they are all secure on the paper clip.
Starting at the back of the guitar, thread each of the rubber bands through the holes at the top of the guitar neck.
Pull them all the way through. The paper clip should be up against the back of the guitar.
One rubber band at a time, pull them along the front of the guitar and through the holes at the bottom of the guitar. Tie the rubber band to another paper clip that is on the back of the guitar.
Those paper clips will keep the strings nice and tight!
Remember those other pieces you cut out? It's time to glue them to the back of the guitar! This gives it a more 3-D look.
For a little extra realistic decoration, make a pick guard with shiny cardstock. I drew somewhat of a raindrop shape and glued it to the right side of the guitar hole. You could decorate other ways, by painting the guitar or adding stickers. A piece of ribbon makes a great guitar strap too, I used glue dots to secure to the back of the guitar. Just be creative!!
Saige is so excited to rock out on her guitar! I hope you have fun making one for your doll too. If you do, I'd LOVE to see. Feel free to send me a picture at [email protected]
Have you ever played an instrument? Happy Crafting! :)
