Last week I took a trip to JoAnn's Fabric Store. Usually when I go there I skip past the fabric and look at other crafty things. Well, this time I scanned through the fabric quarters and fell in love with all the gorgeous prints! There were so many to choose from! I decided to use my favorite to make a fabric flower headband for my dolls. These are super easy to do and no-sew! :)
First you'll need some supplies:
- Fabric (I used a fabric quarter which was inexpensive at $2. You don't need much fabric, so this is a great way to use up scraps!)
- Elastic (I used 3/4" Fold-Over in pink)
- Felt
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun
- Ruler
- Tape (optional)
1. Cut out three strips of fabric eighteen inches long and one inch wide. 2. Tie the strips together at the top and make a knot. 3. Tape the strips to a table or have a friend hold the strips for you. 4. Begin braiding the fabric together. You can braid tight or loose, whichever you like. Keep braiding until you reach the end, then tape to the table to hold in place and set it aside. 5. Cut out two felt circles one and a half inches wide. And cut a piece of elastic nine and half inches long. 6. Take the ends of the elastic and glue together in the middle to make the headband.
7. Put a dot of glue in the middle of one of the felt circles. Then, glue down part of the fabric. 8. Keep gluing in a spiral fashion. 9. Glue until the entire felt circle is covered. 10. Glue the fabric flower on the elastic, covering where you glued the two ends together. 11. Glue the other felt circle on the back of the elastic. Make sure to glue down any pieces of the felt that stick up. 12. And, you're finished!!
Now you can put the headband on your doll! Isn't it so cute?! I love how the colors in the fabric really pop! You could even use three different kinds of fabric--I might try that next time. :)
Nellie looks awesome in her headband! I hope you have fun making one for your doll. If you do, I'd LOVE to see! Feel free to send me a picture at [email protected]
Happy Crafting! :)
