With the start of March and St. Patrick's Day coming up, it's potato season! Baked potatoes are one of my favorite foods and actually, I'm having one for dinner tonight. Here's a fun way to make a baked potato for your American Girl doll. It's great as a mini meal or side item to another yummy dish. Let's get cooking!
First you'll need some ingredients (supplies!)...
- Pantyhose (Tan works best!)
- Scissors
- Sewing Needle & Brown Thread
- Cotton (Or polyfill, tissues, cottonballs--whatever you have on hand!)
- Yellow Foam
1. With your scissors, cut the feet from the pantyhose. Leave about five inches up from the ankle. 2. Now you should have both of them in front of you. 3. Put one of the pantyhose feet inside the other. This was just to make mine not as see-through. If you use pantyhose that are darker tan, you won't have to do this. 4. Stuff the cotton inside the pantyhose, enough to make a small oval shape, three to four inches across. 5. Cut off the excess pantyhose, leaving an inch.
6. Fold the extra pantyhose flap over and sew with simple stitches to secure. 7. Tie off the thread with a knot. 8. Re-thread your needle. You will want to use a VERY LONG piece of thread, longer than you think you need. 9. Poke your needle deep into the pantyhose and pull it up to make a stitch. 10. Poke your needle back down directly into the stitch you just made. Then, bring the needle up again.
11. Pull the thread tight. 12. Poke the needle back into the same stitch for the second time. Bring it up and over into a new place on the pantyhose. This is really important to do, so that you will be able to make several indents in your doll's baked potato. 13. Continue repeating the stitches, until the potato is covered or until you run out of thread. Tie off the thread. 14. With your scissors, snip a small opening in the pantyhose at the top and continue cutting to the other side.
Stretch the opening a bit and pull the cotton so that it looks nicer.
Finally, cut a small square of yellow foam and place on top to be the butter! And you're finished! :)
Now your doll can dig in, yum!!
Nellie loves baked potatoes too!
I hope you have fun making one for your doll! If you do, I'd really love to see it! Feel free to send me a picture at [email protected]
Happy Crafting, enjoy! :)
