There are so many delicious pies out there, but my #1 favorite has to be cherry! I've been wanting to make my doll's a pretend pie for awhile but the one thing that I needed was a mini aluminum tin. I couldn't find any at craft stores, but what do ya know!! I came upon some at the grocery store in the baking aisle!
The mini aluminum tins that come with real Keebler Ready Crust Graham Pie Crust were perfect! They were only a dollar-something for six. This is also great because you can use the crusts for yourself/family and then wash & keep the mini tins for later.
Now, are you ready to get started? Let's get into the other supplies! You'll need...
- Tan Felt
- Red Felt (or another color for a different pie)
- Glue (I used hot glue, but regular works good too)
- Scissors
- Polyfill or Cotton Balls
- Ruler/Measuring Tape
- And, your Mini Pie Tin!
1. To make the pie, first cut your tan felt 6 inches long and 5 and half inches wide. 2. Put glue at the bottom of the pie tin. 3. Place the felt inside the tin and press down gently to glue in place. 4. Cut off the corner and trim around the excess, leaving an inch or so. 5. Flip the tin over and begin gluing underneath the tin. 6. Fold over the felt, gluing as you go. 7. When it's all glued, it should look something like this! 8. Cut a circle from your red felt, 3 inches long and wide. Get out your polyfill or cotton balls and put some inside the tin. 9. Put the red felt over the polyfill and glue underneath the edges. 10. Cut eight strips of tan felt, four of them should be 3 inches long and the other four 3 and half. Each should be a half inch wide. 11. Place the four strips that are 3 inches on the pie facing up. 12. We're going to make a lattice pie crust. So first take another long felt strip and place it over the first strip. Lift the second strip and place the long strip under. Then over the third strip. And finally under the fourth strip. It's like your weaving. :) 13. For the next strip go under, then over, then under, and over. Then repeat with the last two strips.14. Place a little glue under the strips around the edges to hold in place. And, you're done!
Now your doll can pretend to "bake" her pie! I think Kit's is ready!
I hope you have fun making a pie for your doll too! If you do, I'd love to see. Feel free to send me a picture at [email protected]
Now I'd love to know...what's your favorite kind of pie? :)
