I always love getting to know the designers behind doll fashion and I'm super excited to introduce you to my new sponsor, Frilly Frillz. The lovely shop features high quality clothing for American Girl dolls, from sweet dress to trendy outfits. I had the great opportunity to interview Marci, the creator of Frilly Frillz and I can't wait to share our talk with you...
When did you learn how to sew?
I have 4 daughters I sewed for too. In the early 80's I manufactured and designed children's formals for 4 years. Then I made doll clothes for porcelain and antique dolls. I traveled the doll circuit and did many shows.
When my marriage ended (about 1990) I stopped sewing. I didn't sew for many years after that. Until I was working for a company where they would dress up for Halloween. I got out my machine and made a costume. About 10 years ago I got involved with "reborn baby" dolls and came up with the name "Frilly Frillz".
I made a move about 4 years ago and on a visit from one of my granddaughter's, she brought over her American Girl doll. She then said, "Grandma you should make clothes for my doll". I then bought Grace, the night she came out and it began from there. Frilly Frillz was born again for American Girl dolls. My granddaughter's mother was already selling her hat's on Etsy and told me to look into selling them there.
Where does your inspiration come from?
My inspiration comes in many ways, a fabric, a color, a dream. I could also come from a pattern, I usually change them and make my version. Maybe from a dress I had made for my daughter's.
What do you enjoy sewing the most?
I just love sewing for dolls.
Do you have any American Girl dolls yourself? Do you have a favorite?
Right now I just have one American Girl doll Grace. I would love to get another, maybe in the future. I have many other dolls too. I still have my last childhood doll, my Toni Doll. Although she needs a little repair. She is about 65 yrs old.
