Who is the most beautiful girl at the Ball? Could it be Willa?! I made this masquerade costume for Wellie Wishers completely no-sew and I loved doing it! It is an easy craft that only takes a few steps. Let's get started!
The supplies you need are:
- Tulle
- Felt
- Scissors
- Velcro Circles or Strips
- Elastic
- Stick-On Gems
- Glue Gun
- Measuring Tape/Ruler (optional)
My felt is already sized to 7 and half inches long and 2 and a half inches wide. The strips are sized to 3 inches long and a half inch wide.
How to make the top:
1. First glue the felt strips to the top in a V shape. 2. Stick or glue on the gems where the felt strips meet. Cut small squares from the velcro and stick on to the top of the strips. One will be facing forward and the other on the back as you can see it flipped in the picture. 3. Place more velcro on the sides of the felt. One side will be facing forward and the other back as well. (You can glue on the velcro for a stronger hold) 4. Now you can put it on your Wellie Wishers doll!
How to make the skirt:
The skirt is made like how I did in my doll tutu tutorial. 1. Cut a piece of elastic 8 inches. Then cut a piece of tulle 18-20 inches. 3. Tie the tulle onto the elastic. Continue to tie the pieces onto the elastic, pushing them together as you go. 4. Once quite a bit of tulle is on the elastic, glue the ends of the elastic together to form a circle. 5. Let dry, then tie more tulle onto the elastic until it is all covered. Afterwards, trim the bottom of the tulle skirt if you need to.
I used two different colors of tulle and did a pattern of two each alternating. It looks so pretty!
Her mask is from a local party store and my parent's got it last year thinking it would fit my American Girl dolls. It was a little small, but now that I have Willa, I realized it fit her! You could also create your own mask with foam or paper and decorate it. :)
The skirt can also be made for American Girl dolls if you size the elastic around 23 inches or so. (You can measure the width of your doll's waist to get an accurate measurement.)
Willa is ready to go to the Ball!
