Shh...Clara is fast asleep snuggled up in her new sleeping bag. This was a lot of fun to make! It's a great afternoon project or an activity to do at your own slumber party. It's completely no sew too; anyone can do it! :)
The supplies you need are:
- 1 Yard Patterned Fleece*
- 1 Yard Solid Color Fleece*
- Fabric Scissors
- Tape Measure
(*This is enough for one sleeping bag. I bought my fleece at Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Store)
1. First measure and cut your fleece. One patterned fleece will be 28 inches long by 18 inches wide--this will be the bottom layer. The solid color fleece will also be 28 inches long and 18 inches wide--this will be the inside of the sleeping bag. Finally, the other patterned fleece will be 20 inches long and 18 inches wide--this will the top layer. Once each piece is cut out, line them up together so that the solid color is in the middle of the stack. 2. Use the tape measure and cut a square from each corner, 4 inches long by 4 inches wide.
3. For the edges, make each strip 1 inch wide and cut it 4 inches up. You can use the square corner as a guide as to how deep to cut. 4. Keep cutting the strips until you reach the end. 5. Now it's time to tie the fringe! All the stacked pieces need to be tied together. Grab the patterned piece on top, then gather the two other pieces below it. 6. Tie them into one knot. 7. Double knot it, so that it will not come undone. Make sure to not tie the knots too tightly or it will change the shape of the sleeping bag. Keep on tying until you reach the end! 8. And, you're done!
Now your doll has a cozy sleeping bag!
I also made a pillow with my extra fleece. To make one you use the same technique as the sleeping bag, except with only two pieces of fleece cut the same size--11 inches long by 8 inches wide. I cut the strips a half inch wide and about two inches up. After tying the fringe halfway, I filled it with poly-fil stuffing. Then I tied the rest and trimmed the fringe down so they weren't too long. Ta-da! A matching pillow!
Clara can't wait to have slumber parties with her new friends! Isn't this fleece just too cute?! Makes me excited for Springtime.
