At the start of the year, I made a goal for myself to read the whole Harry Potter series! I never got around to reading them when I was younger and I enjoyed watching the movies, so I wanted to give it a try. Of course, I LOVED them!! I thought it would be fun to dress up Mia as a Hogwarts student for Halloween, but she needed a wand to complete the costume...so I made my own! Want to make one too? Let's get started!
The supplies you need are:
- Wooden Chopsticks
- Hot Glue Gun
- Brown Paint
- Paintbrush
- Sand Paper
- Cutting Tool
- Gloss Varnish (I used Winsor & Newton Spray)
- Parent/Guardian to help!

1. The first thing you need to do is cut the chopstick to four and a half inches long. My dad used one of his cutting tools to do it carefully. Afterwards, use sand paper to soften the edges and make a smooth tip at the end. If you don't have sand paper, a nail file/emery board would work too. 2. When you have the wood shaped the way you like, use hot glue to make designs at the base of the wand. Let dry fully. 3. Paint the wand. I used "espresso" brown CraftSmart paint from Michael's craft store. Here's an easier way to let the paint dry without smearing: take two extra chopsticks and lay them across a paper plate, then lay the mini wand across the chopsticks. 4. Once it's completely dry, you can keep it as is or you can give it a glossy shine. I used Winsor & Newton gloss varnish, but there are other alternatives out there. When the gloss is dry, you can give it to your doll so she can practice her spells! :)
Mia is so excited to have a wand of her very own!
Looks like she's in the Forbidden Forest...but no worries, it's just the woods in my backyard. ;)

The best part about these wands, is that you can make it however you want! There are tons of different kinds in Harry Potter, the possibilities are endless. I based mine off of Ginny's wand, it is so pretty.

Isn't her Gryffindor robe costume adorable?! You can get one too, on Amazon. It is very good quality, I was so impressed!
If you make a wand too, I'd love to see it! You can send me a picture to email@americangirlfan.com or tag me on Instagram @creativedollcrafts
What is your Hogwarts House? Mine is Ravenclaw! If you haven't been sorted, go take the quiz at Pottermore.com and let me know.

Happy magical crafting!!
