Q & A With Liz: I'm Knitting!

Hi Girls! I'm back with a brand-new Q & A video to share with you! I had a fun time answering your questions, thanks again for sending them!

Q: If you didn't go on any screens for a day, what would you do? ~AJ

A: This is extremely good question that made me think! haha If the screen on my camera counts, I would still plan some doll posts for all of you and take photos later. I would catch up on reading, spend time with my family, make crafts, get back into scrapbooking, and knit! My mom recently taught me how to knit and I love it! I show my first knitting project in the video, and it's definitely not perfect but I'm enjoying it! Any other knitting American Girl Fans out there? 

Q: Who is your favorite Historical American Girl Doll? ~Katelyn

A: I honestly love all of them! But story wise, I do like Kit because I like her books and that she lives in Cincinnati. And, I have always loved Felicity and Elizabeth's collection and wish they were still available. Of course Rebecca too, I didn't mention her, but she's awesome. ;)

Q: Do you play any musical instruments? ~TheLittlePauline

A: I don't at the moment, but I used to play two instruments. I played the Clarinet when I was thirteen in seventh grade before I was homeschooled. The Summer before starting school I went to a band camp during the day where I learned how to play! I loved the clarinet. I never got to perform a concert with my band, but it was a great experience getting to learn how to read music and accomplish something new. I also played the Lap Dulcimer when I was in third grade and was in a group with my elementary school for a year. My parents gave me a dulcimer for Christmas the following year and I still have it! I want to get back into learning new songs. Here's an old picture I took one time of Elizabeth with my dulcimer:

Q: Can you brush curly doll hair...like Rebecca? Are they hard to maintain? ~Andrea

A: I actually did a post on how I care for Rebecca's hair and you can see it at this link: http://www.americangirlfan.com/2014/04/how-to-care-for-american-girl-rebeccas-curls.html I don't recommend brushing straight through Rebecca's hair or dolls with curly hair, as this can make the hair frizzy. Also, using a brush can straighten it and if your doll has curls, you don't want them to go away! Rebecca's curls are easier to manage for me since she has shorter hair and they hold their shape well. Usually I twist them around my finger when one is out of place, or mist with a little bit of water. Hope this helps and you have fun with Rebecca!

Q: What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends? ~Lainey

A: Oooh, I LOVE weekends! Mine usually consist of either staying home in my pajamas all day or going out shopping and running errands. It changes every week, but I'm a total stay-at-home type of girl. I take off both Saturday and Sunday from doing work here on AmericanGirlFan besides approving comments so I catch up on watching TV shows and spend time with my family. But when I can get out, shopping is a ton of fun and hanging out with a friend is always sweet too. :)

Q & A With Liz: Peace and Love Dolls!

Q: What is your favorite color? ~CutePolarBear

A: Blue! Any and every shade, I love them all! Especially, light blue or turquoise. I wear and own so much blue, it's crazy. I also like yellow, pink, and purple. :)

Q: What is your favorite thing about Christmas? ~Katelyn

A: My favorite thing is being with all of my family! During Christmas I get to spend time with family I don't see often, so I always love hanging out with them. And, I love watching everyone's expressions when they open gifts! I like all the Christmas traditions too, like putting up the Christmas tree and eating yummy food!

Q: How do you come up with your doll crafts? ~Sara

A: Many ways! I like to browse online at crafty websites and sometimes re-create something I see and make it my own. Or I turn girl-sized ideas, into doll-sized! Going to a craft store gives me inspiration too. I can't possibly go in Michael's or JoAnn's without coming out with at least one idea! 

Q: What is your favorite American Girl Movie? ~agdollgirlsince2008

A: Definitely the Kit Movie! Because it was in theaters, and I got to go see it before it came out at an American Girl Place event in Chicago. That is a day I'll never forget! I love the Historical movies best with all the costumes and different settings. Felicity and Molly are other favorites of mine. I like the Girl of the Year movies too, but the Historical ones will always be a bit more special to me.

Q: What is your favorite season to take doll pictures? ~Christian Homeschooler

A: Summer, for sure! I love it best because of the green grass, sunshine, and it's warm! Spring is my second favorite with all the blooming flowers which are so gorgeous in photos. Fall is alright, but only when the leaves are still changing. Once everything is brown and yucky and the grass is dead, that's no fun. Winter I tend to take most of my photos inside because it is freezing!! Whenever I snap pictures of my dolls in the snow, I'm not out for long!

Q & A With Liz: Christmas Excitement!

Q: What do you think of the Girl of the Year 2015? How would you want her to look like? ~TheLittlePauline

A: Awesome question! In the video our answers drifted to what we'd like other Girl of the Year dolls to be, haha. But, we are very excited about the Girl of the Year 2015! Not much has been officially said about the doll (and I tend to not read into a lot of spoilers unless AG says it), but we can't wait to see! We'd love for her to have a new facemold, just any kind of different look to her. :)

Q: What doll do you want to buy next? ~Flower Girl

A: As for me (Liz), Caroline is on my wish list! She's so pretty, and I just love her blonde hair and want to to do styles on it. Unless, I like the GOTY 2015, I hope to get Caroline. Hope says she's content with the dolls she has now, but you never know! ;)

Q: What are you most looking forward to this Christmas season? ~Jaclynn

A: EVERYTHING!!! haha I love the whole time of year and the unique feeling of Christmas that isn't like any other time. We're excited about making homemade gifts, giving to our friends and family, making Christmas cards to send to people (and maybe even you!), wearing winter clothes, and watching Christmas movies on the couch with a nice cup of tea and wrapped in a blanket. Ahh! :)

Q: Do you recommend Mia? I really like her and would like to purchase her off Ebay someday. ~Shelby-Grace

A: Yes, I definitely recommend her! She's one of my favorites and her hair is the most easiest of all my dolls to care for, it hardly tangles. She is so photogenic too and can pull off any fashionable look! She's a great doll! I hope you can find her for a good price on Ebay! :)

Q: How do you get such good lighting on your photos when you're inside? ~Carli

A: What I do, is always take photos near a window to let natural light shine through. I never use the flash on my camera, I love natural best! I also position my doll a certain way so there aren't any shadows, don't be afraid to turn your doll's head or move her arms to pose her in a realistic way. :) Also, the lighting depends on the background of your photo, like the color of the walls. Certain colors will darken or brighten a doll picture. Hope this helps you!!
